Virginia Bath Co. Did a complete rip and renew of my guest bath. New tile, new fixtures, a complete new look.

The Sowinskis and their team were meticulous about their workmanship and leaving no trace of dust or dirt. They were friendly and good listeners. They are experts at what they do and they know how to deal with the unexpected. They started and ended just when they said they would. How many contractors can say that?

Re-designed and reconstructed my bathroom.
Gutted the old bathroom, including removal of a bathtub, removal of tile on walls and floor.
Created a tiled shower, tiled the floor, replaced vanity top, lighting, medicine cabinet.
In the process, repaired rotted wooden floor around toilet.
Repaired ceiling.
Painted walls and ceiling.
Installed new lighting, medicine cabinet, and floor trim.

It went WONDERFULLY!
I highly recommend Rich Sowinski for bathroom remodeling. He does outstanding work.
1.    He brings many years of experience to the job and therefore is a trustworthy advisor regarding products and designs. I
appreciated his suggestions regarding both function AND beauty.
2.      He clearly takes pride in his work. He goes the extra mile, beyond what he has to do, to make sure that his work is solid AND beautiful.
3.      He cares. He wants to please his customers, and goes out of his way to make sure his customers will be pleased with the final product.
4.      Rich and his crew take care; as they worked and after they were done with the job, things were clean and tidy.
5.      Rich and his crew are pleasant to have around.  I trust them to respect me and my home.

Rich Sowinski of Virginia Bath Company replaced the master bath shower door and controls. All work was expertly done. His professionalism and skill were top-notch. But these qualities are not what impressed me the most. I have been trying to replace the shower door for several months and it has been incredibly frustrating. Neither we nor contractors we contacted were able to find a replacement door. When I contacted Rich Sowinski at Virginia Bath Company, he immediately came out, took measurements, and began looking for a door and fittings. There was no hesitation in his approach to the job. He found the door wiithin a day or two and contacted me to set a day for installation. Weather delayed the work but Rich kept me updated. Schedule changes were communicated quickly.
I would not hesitate to contact Virginia Bath Company (and Rich Sowinski) for additional work and highly recommend both the company and Rich for plumbing work.

Sue H. – (master Bath Shower Door Replacement) – 2014 Review

Removed existing shower consisting of fiber glass base, cultured marble walls, framed aluminum/plexiglass enclosure and cultured marble trim around a garden tub.  Installed new spa type shower and enclosure.  Installation included partial replacement of sub flooring, installation of new grout/tiled shower base, tiled walls and trim around the tub.  New frameless, tempered glass enclosure installed. Increased overall height of shower walls and enclosure glass by roughly 8 inches.

The existing shower was part of the original home construction completed in 2002.  The original shower base and cultured marble walls had to be reworked by the builder to make the installation minimally acceptable shortly after the house was completed.
The decision to remodel the shower and tub surround was made late last year and quotes were obtained from The Virginia Bath Company and one other Angie's List A-rated contractor.  The VBC quote was not the lower quote, but after going over the quotes with both contractors, we felt that VBC represented the better value and that going with a contractor that specialized in bathroom and tile work only would be our best choice.  We would have been comfortable with either contractor doing the work.
When I first contacted Rich Sowinski late last year, he said he would be happy to provide a quote for our project but that he was booked until March.  Schedule was not a problem for us so we proceeded.  Rich came out and looked at our job, listened to what we were looking for and turned around a detailed quote in short order.  In the interim, he had a schedule slot open up in February so we were able to start earlier than anticipated.
Rich specified the date he and his team would start on, how many days the work would take and what would be done on each day. Their plan was followed exactly as outlined and the work was completed as scheduled.  They were punctual each day.  They were respectful of our home and took the time and effort to protect our floors and finishes as the work was being done and thoroughly cleaned up at the end of each day.
I was able to observe much of the work as the installation was in progress.  Any questions I had were answered patiently and politely.  Rich and his team were cordial and professional throughout the process.  After the price had been agreed to and the work scheduled to begin, I asked for two changes to the design that required additional labor.  The first change was to add two body sprays to the shower system and the second was an alteration to the top trim design of the shower walls.  The tile change added almost 6 square feet of additional tile and a significant additional amount of individual tile cuts.  This change in trim design was extended to the trim strip around the tub. Usually when changes are made to the work after the initial agreement, such changes tend to become pricier.  I found this not to be the case in my dealings with Rich Sowinski.  When I asked for the changes, I told him that I suspected they would affect his original quote and for him to let me know how much.  I was pleased to receive what I believe to be fair and reasonable adjustments to the price.
Rich used Danny's Glass as a subcontractor for the shower glass fabrication and installation on our job.  He managed the subcontractor seamlessly.  From our standpoint, the work went just as smoothly and efficiently as if VBC had done all of the work themselves.  Rich followed up on a final inspection of the work after the glass was installed.  A very minor cosmetic flaw was observed in the a short section of the silicone caulk at the base of the channel that the glass rests in.  Rich came out the next morning and re-caulked the area in question leaving it indistinguishable from the rest of the caulk.  I only point this out as an example of Rich's commitment to customer service and his demonstrated desire to complete the project in a craftsmanlike manner.
To sum up, my wife and I could not be happier with how the project turned out.  The overall fit and finish well exceeded our expectations. From our initial consultation, through the development of the tile pattern details, to the installation and final walkthrough, this project was a pleasure to work through.  I would not hesitate to have Rich and his team back to do any bathroom or general tile project we may do in the future.  I highly recommend The Virginia Bath Company; good people to do business with.

We requested an estimate on updating a Jack and Jill bath in our home.  Their representative came out to the house, discussed the options available for the upgrades and provided an email with the estimate within the week.  Due to the fact we are selling the home, he recommended we do NOT do the upgrades as we are unlikely to recoup our investment on this type of upgrade.  Better to spend the funds on the kitchen and master suite.  We appreciated his honesty and thought his estimate was within reason for the work involved

After reviewing the estimate and discussing the project, we elected not to do the upgrades.

There was a cracked pipe that was causing some mold issues in our Master bathroom shower, so we decided to have Virginia Bath Company come and look at it.  Rich was very informative and willing to answer any questions we had about the possible solutions.  We decided to have our shower and bath re-tiled...we also replaced the shower floor with stone instead of the builder grade plastic base.  Rich came to our home on time each and everyday and created a masterpiece within 1 week.  He made sure the shower and tub were built to the highest standard.  Rich's crew took pride in everything they did while on the job, they are top notch and a class act!  I would recommend them to everyone!!

They did an amazing job.  They were wonderful, efficient, polite and always on time.  Communication was great!  Rich was always responsive and ready to answer any questions we may have had.  We are more than happy about our decision to go with The Virginia Bath Company!

A complete remodel of our master bathroom.  Redesigned and completely rebuilt the separate glassed in shower with two safety bars and two shower heads. One of them can be used while seated on the tiled shower bench to ensure comfort and safety while showering.  All tiled ares were completely redone and a Granite counter top and new sinks, new faucets for the sinks, and in tub and shower area.  The tub as well as the shower area was redesigned and a new tub installed.  The new wall tile extends into the shower area and two cutouts were installed for soap and shampoos.  He installed a decorate trim into the wall tile around the tub and shower.  There is now additional space for another storage cabinet.   He replaced the tile floor in the separate toilet room and installed a new larger toilet.  A crystal chandelier was installed over the tub, lighting over the vanity and lighting in the ceiling and in the shower.  The wall space in the bathroom and toilet room were painted and the trim and ceiling.  We had a problem with a water leakage into the dining room ceiling below the bathroom.  He determined the leakage problem and solved it and the dining room ceiling was painted.

Our bathroom is absolutely beautiful!  We are extremely pleased with the work we contracted with Rich Sowinski and The Virginia Bath Company.   From the day we met with Rich to discuss our problems with our master bathroom until the completion of the project, Rich kept us informed every step of the way, very promptly and professionally.  He only schedules one project at a time and therefore never had to leave for another project until ours was completed.  We really appreciated that.  He arrived promptly on the agreed time every day and kept us informed on the project each day to include photos of the work done.  He has great attention to detail and everyone that he brought in to work on our bath had the same professional manner.  The work area was very clean each time the workers left for the day. My wife had a complete knee replacement the day before the remodeling job and was disappointed that she wouldn't be able to see the bathroom as the work was being done.  Rich kept her up to date with photos every day from his cell phone of the work as it was being completed and met with us in the Skill Care facility where she was recuperating to show her large photos of the bathroom as it was being completed and to discuss final details.  We would be very happy to speak with anyone considering a bathroom remodeling about our experience with Rich Sowinski and the Virginia Bath Company.  He is associated with fine companies and we were able to chose tile and granite, bathroom fixtures and lighting well in advance so that they could be ordered and arrive in time for the work to begin.  This is the best experiences that we have had with contractors working in our home.  We give him the highest recommendation possible.

Ray & Judy – (Master Bath Remodel) 2013 Review

Our project involved completely gutting and rebuilding three full bathrooms. This included removing an old, dysfunctional hot tub and tying off the drain lines, removing some quest pipe and replacing with copper, building custom showers, and replacing a 'lovely' pink bathtub dating from the 1950's.  We spent many hours picking out our granite, tile, and fixtures from companies with which Virginia Bath Company (VBC) has contracts.  They then ordered the quantities they needed and organized delivery and, where applicable, installation.  We also worked with a cabinet maker VBC recommended for some cabinets built to our specifications.  VBC had all supplies in place before the work began so that they could work continuously and finish on time.

We have had many building projects over the years; we have never hired a firm that was so genial, so patient with our endless concerns, which kept to schedule, and which delivered as high quality a product as VBC. VBC is a family business composed of two brothers and their father. They do most of the work themselves, but subcontract plumbing, electrical and painting. Whenever problems arise they come back quickly and cheerfully to fix them without any additional charge. Furthermore, one of the subcontractors accidentally damaged some outdoor framing surrounding our driveway and VBC not only fixed it promptly, but also replaced some adjacent rotting timbers without charging us for the extra repairs.

The high quality of their work arises in part because of the thought that goes into the initial bidding process. After careful discussion regarding our vision of the job to be done, we received an itemized list of the work to be done and the estimated duration of the job along with the bid. This allowed us to confirm that they understood exactly what we wanted done; it also required that we carefully thought through our project before any work began. Of course, unforeseen glitches always arise. Most of these they took care of without additional charge. However, when we decided on something that was not in the original bid, or when there were hidden problems that we or they could not have known about, of course there were additional, very fair, fees.

This is the husband writing: I will tell you that on projects like this, my wife is NOT easy to please. Nevertheless, she was VERY pleased with the performance of VBC on our job.

FOR THE MEN.. Remodel Bathroom.  Our house is ten years old and the bathroom was built using builder grade off the shelf shower, tub, and fixtures.  It was a very large swimming pool size tub with a very small shower and a cheap linoleum floor.  The guys at Probuilt removed existing tub and shower and built us a new, bigger, better shower with a reasonable size tub.  They also tiled the floor and installed  new fixtures, lights, and mirrors ensuring the entire bathroom looked great.
FOR THE WOMEN. That was from my husband.  It is often difficult to make both parties happy, however, Rich and his "team" :) did just that. It was absolutely a pleasure to work with them.  They were courteous and professional and although they were in my master bath i never felt uncomfortable or invconvenienced by their presence.  In the design phase i often called with a question that may seem silly or minor  to an experienced builder such as Rich however, he never made me feel my question was silly and addressed any questions immediately and professionally.  From the start, we knew what to expect and he delivered even more!  I also loved the fact that he did not nickel and dime me on the materials. He does not ask for the money as others do and then get his discount.  He tells you where he gets a discount and how much it is and lets you go there and pick.  He also referred me to a great place for fixtures etc on line that had quality stuff at great prices by comparison.  We did oil rubbed bronze and a drop in Kohler tub which can be very expensive, I think we saved 2000$for the same materials on his recommendation.   And because his discount kept the cost down, we were able to get porcelain tile instead of ceramic.  He also is great at the extra added touches that give it that finished look. There are no cut corners with Probulit!  His price was right in the middle for labor, still very reasonable for quality work.
WE both HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Virginia Bath Company.  We are thrilled with the bath.

Darrin & Melisa - Master Bath Remodel 2016

It was all an extremely positive experience. Rich Sowinski, who did all the costing and did/supervised all the renovations, was professional and reliable. He has a good experienced eye, and we relied on his aesthetic judgement on many issues in the renovation. He gave estimates on the basic demolition and renovation, and then gave us options for all of the new fittings, etc that we wanted, so that we could tailor the fittings to our particular budget. He stayed within those estimates (both re pricing and duration of the work - it all took about 10 days in all), and there were no nasty surprises re additional costs. We changed our minds on a couple of things, and he came in and repriced them for us. He is always very fast responding to emails and calls. The cost estimates were always extremely detailed. We bought most of the materials through vendors and got a decent discount from them in Rich's name. The last thing he and his team did was to clean the house when they left. You'll have to book him a few months in advance probably, as I've no doubt he is in demand, but we would use him again and wait again for him for this kind of renovation. Main thing is that the end-product looks very high quality and professional.

John & Christine J. - Master Bath Remodel 2016

It was a pleasure to work with Rich and his crew (which consists of his father and brothers, truly a family business). From the very first meeting we were impressed with his professionalism, thoroughness and attention to detail, organization, punctuality, and responsiveness.  Having never done a major renovation before, we weren't quite sure what to expect, but Rich made it all so easy.  After his first visit, and us giving him a general idea of what we wanted done, (and unlike the other 2 contractors we asked to give us an estimate) he prepared a detailed written estimate, showing exactly what work would be done, what types of materials he would be using, etc.  We knew exactly what was included, and what was extra (tile, fixtures, cabinets etc) . From there, as our ideas for the master bath renovation evolved, we were able to bounce those ideas and thoughts off of Rich, and he would offer suggestions, and give us honest opinions, but we never felt he was pushing us to do more than we really wanted.

The actual renovation was a breeze with minimal disruption! Rich has this all down to a science and everything went like clockwork. Rich and his crew arrived at the appointed time every morning and worked quietly and efficiently.  All floors/carpet were covered and tarps put up to minimize dust, and before leaving, everything was swept clean and left neat. At the end of the day, Rich would review what would be done the following day. We were always so amazed at what they were able to accomplish each day. At the end of nine days (plus 2 more days for painting) the renovation was more or less complete.  Shower doors/glass and mirrors were installed about 2 weeks later and all remaining details (backsplashes, towel bars etc) were completed by then as well.

We highly recommend Rich and wish more contractors were like him as he has truly set the bar high! Throughout the whole process, Rich was available by email/ text for any questions, concerns or other issues, 7 days a week.  Within an hour at the most, he would respond and/or have taken care of any issues we may have had. Furthermore, his workmanship is superb. We could tell this was a labor of love for him, and he took great pride in bringing our dreams to fruition. We felt like we were a team, working together to create something beautiful and functional. Early on when we had decided we were going to use him for our bath renovation, we were skeptical when he told us "this will be a lot of fun"!   Well, he was right!  It was fun!

Rich and his crew arrived every day at the agreed time, completed what they planned, and cleaned up well before they left. The entire crew was pleasant to work with, totally professional, and the quality of the workmanship couldn't have been higher. Rich used high quality materials and was totally responsive to our requests and desires throughout the design and construction. These guys are real craftsmen and the quality shows. The process really was fun, and we couldn't be happier with our new bath. We got exactly what we had hoped for at a fair price. I don't believe there is a more responsive, honest, and professional bathroom contractor in Williamsburg.
A complete remodel of the master bath. Removed the existing shower insert, tub surround tile, and counter tops with fixtures. Created a spacious tile shower, installed matching tile on the tub surround, installed new counter tops, sinks, and fixtures. Also upgraded powder room bath with new counter top, sink, and fixture. They even threw in a couple of other small repairs at no extra charge,

From the initial meeting for an estimate, Rich Sowinski was on time, met every expectation timely updates when the work began and throughout the process. The key element was he is an expert in his field and not to say that folks can't d many things well, but he specializes in bathrooms and has carved a niche to earn the highest praises for the quality and workmanship that he and his team put into the projects.
Right from the start I could tell it was going to be a great experience because to be on a waiting list speaks to the expectations of what will come.
We were actively involved in the process throughout and he made certain he explained in great detail the process and never forced his opinion on us but explained what I saw was a good better best approach to what we wanted to accomplish.
Highly recommend Rich and his team for anyone that wants to experience the wow of a new bathroom!!

Bob & Sharon P. - Master Bath Remodel 2015

Rich and his team are the perfect partners for a bath renovation, from start to finish.  They let me know exactly what to expect, and they delivered on every single promise.  They have been prompt, professional, and just an absolute pleasure to work with.  The quality and craftsmanship evident in their work is unparalleled.  They finished AHEAD of schedule, even with a couple of bumps along the way -- bumps that were MY fault for choosing faucets that didn't quite work.  I can't possibly recommend Virginia Bath more highly.
